Our History
In November of 2003 the staff members at Upward Bound decided that not only should they be making ways to help students academically get to college but also financially, as a result Upward Bound at USM Dollars for Scholars was born. Upward Bound at USM Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to Upward Bound students that are going on to college.
Dollars for Scholars is proud to announce that we have awarded and paid for 47 scholarships to roughly 15 Colleges and Universities for students who participated in the TRIO Upward Bound at USM Program in high school. The scholarship amounts have ranged from $150 to $1000 and were paid to students during their spring semester of their first year in college. Students who have received these scholarships have attended colleges throughout New England such as: the University of Southern Maine, University of New England, and the University of New Hampshire.
